The State of Medicine in the USA Today

The Ballot Initiative
Next Steps
Closing Note

The State of Medicine in the USA Today
Our members shared firsthand experiences and observations about the increasingly fragile state of American healthcare. We talked about:

Access barriers that continue to grow, especially for rural communities and low‑income families.

Corporate consolidation in hospitals and clinics, which has led to higher costs, fewer choices, and a disturbing trend of profit-first decision-making.

The burnout crisis among medical professionals (many of whom are leaving the field entirely), leaving patients with longer wait times and fewer specialists.

Preventative care gaps, where people are forced to delay basic medical needs because of cost, insurance hurdles, or lack of available providers.

The consensus was clear: the system is strained, and ordinary people are paying the price. Our committee reaffirmed that any future policy work must keep healthcare access and medical equity at the forefront.

Education & Planning for the Future
We also examined the state of education, not just in Nevada, but nationwide and how it intersects with our long-term organizing goals.

Key points included:

Underfunded public schools, especially in rural counties, where teachers are expected to do more with less every year.

Curriculum instability, with constant political interference making it harder for students to receive consistent, high-quality instruction.

The need for civic education, so future voters understand how ballot initiatives work, how laws are made, and how communities can protect themselves from political overreach.

Long-term planning, including how our committee can support educational outreach, community workshops, and accessible informational materials.

We agreed that strengthening civic literacy is essential, not just for this initiative, but for every future effort where communities must defend their rights and their voice.

The Ballot Initiative
This was the most decisive part of the meeting.

After reviewing the situation, the committee agreed not to withdraw the Ballot Initiative.

Why?

Because we’re tired of having things taken from us.
We’re tired of being dismissed, ignored, or overridden.
We’re tired of watching community-driven work get sidelined by people who assume we are too insignificant fight back.

Keeping the initiative in place is a strategic choice. One rooted in principle, persistence, and the refusal to let our efforts be erased. Even if the path forward requires patience, procedural navigation, or future amendments, the initiative remains ours. It stays on the record. It stays in the system. It stays visible.

This decision reflects a broader truth: our committee is done letting others decide what we’re allowed to pursue.

We keep what we build.
We protect what we create.
And we move forward on Nevada Green Party terms.

Next Steps
Continue refining educational materials for community outreach.

Prepare for upcoming discussions on healthcare access and legislative strategy.

Maintain readiness for any procedural updates regarding the Ballot Initiative.

Strengthen communication channels so members stay informed even when recordings fail.

Closing Note
Even without a Zoom recording, the clarity of the meeting came through in the decisions we made. This committee is grounded, focused, and unwilling to be pushed aside. October’s work reflects that and November’s will build on it.
