Closing Note

Corporate Powers Act initiative

There was a detailed update on the Corporate Powers Act initiative. The legal representative reported delays in court posting systems, limited transparency, and ongoing follow up with the clerk. It was agreed that if signature collection remains insufficient, the initiative may need to be withdrawn and reworded shortly before the November 18th deadline.

Data Center Concerns

A major portion of the meeting addressed statewide opposition to data centers. Participants highlighted issues including water depletion, corporate influence, surveillance expansion, and opaque ownership structures. Recent public meetings showed strong community resistance, yet County Commissioners continued approving development despite widespread objections.

Discussion included connecting the Corporate Powers Act to these concerns. A member will prepare a press release linking data centers, water protection, and corporate accountability.

Outreach and Engagement

Participants explored contacting a well known environmental advocate to help amplify awareness. They also discussed creating a simple checklist for the website to explain how the initiative relates to data centers, surveillance systems, and resource protection.

Closing Note

Nevada continues to face rapid changes in development, resource use, and political decision making, and communities across the state are speaking up with increasing clarity. The work ahead remains challenging, but it is grounded in shared commitment to transparency, community rights, and meaningful public participation. As efforts around the initiative, legal access, and environmental protection move forward, the focus stays on strengthening democratic processes and ensuring that Nevada’s future reflects the needs of its people rather than the priorities of corporate interests.
